Madison Edwards | Lead Infant Teacher

Raised in a super small town in central Arkansas, I started my childcare journey in Jr. high volunteering at First Presbyterian for 3 hours each day in school up until graduation. I have now been working in childcare for 11 years. I have a 7 year old son who was raised with a Montessori style and a deep love for nature. We love learning, going on hikes, reading, and science experiments. We have now been in Colorado for two years and are looking forward to being a part of the Big Red Barn team! I believe in a child-centered, holistic approach to early education. My teaching philosophy is deeply rooted in the principles of Montessori education, which emphasizes independence, freedom within limits, and respect for a child’s natural psychological development. I strive to create a nurturing and stimulating environment where children can explore and learn at their own pace. In my classroom, I prioritize hands-on, experiential learning, which I believe is crucial for young children. By engaging with materials and their environment, children develop critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a love for discovery. I incorporate elements from nature into our daily activities, fostering a connection to the natural world and encouraging curiosity about the environment. I also place a strong emphasis on social-emotional development. I believe that a supportive and inclusive community is essential for children to feel safe and confident. I encourage positive interactions, empathy, and cooperation among my students, helping them build strong interpersonal skills. Overall, my goal is to cultivate a love for learning in each child, empowering them to be curious, confident, and compassionate individuals. I love being able to teach and foster those early connections, set a foundation of trust, and for all the extra love and cuddles. I am raising/teaching our next generation, future leaders, and believe they deserve every advantage I did not have in the 90s. I’m super excited to be a part of The Big Red Barn team and can not wait for all the fun we have!
